How Is Cervical Disc Herniation Diagnosed?

Question: Is MRI alone sufficient?

Answer: No.

How is the correct diagnosis made?

  1. Detailed patient history
  2. Neurological examination
  3. MRI (high resolution, at least 15 minutes)
  4. If necessary:
    • Dynamic X-rays
    • CT
    • EMG / SEP / MEP

“MRI findings that are not supported by clinical examination increase the risk of incorrect treatment.”
