Signs and Symptoms of a Brain Tumor
Question: When people say “brain tumor,” is every tumor a cancer?
Answer: No. Some brain masses can be benign; others may be metastases from elsewhere in the body. Metastases are the most common brain tumor group in adults.
Question: What symptoms can a brain tumor cause?
Answer:
• New-onset headaches or headaches that change in character
• Nausea and vomiting (especially in the mornings), balance problems
• Weakness in an arm/leg, speech disturbance
• Fainting, seizures (epileptic seizures)
What should be done in “urgent” symptoms suggesting a brain tumor?
- Seek emergency care (112 / emergency department) if there is sudden weakness, speech problems, severe/unusual headache with vomiting or altered consciousness.
- Bring any prior MRI/CT reports and your medication list if available.
- If you have had a seizure, do not drive and do not stay alone.
