Question: How common are brain metastases?
Answer: In patients with cancers such as lung, breast, colon, stomach, skin (melanoma), and prostate cancer, brain metastases may develop at some point in life in approximately 20–40%.
• There may be a single or multiple metastases in the brain
• In some patients, brain metastasis may be detected before the primary tumor
• Treatment planning depends on the number of tumors, extent of spread, and the patient’s overall condition
